Marc Gasol underwent successful surgery on his foot but will miss the rest of the season.

After a foot injury ruled out Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol indefinitely, reports have surfaced that the surgery required to repair it has been successful:

While he is expected to make a full recovery and appear on the court again, it will have to wait until the start of the next season. That is according to the Memphis Grizzlies’ official website which has ruled him out for the rest of this year.

When speaking out about the injury, Gasol stated “It is frustrating to not be on the court with my teammates at this time, but I understand that the focus of this process is on long-term health and stability. I look forward to the road ahead and a full and successful recovery.”

Gasol has been one of the most important pieces of the Grizzlies’ success ever since he arrived in 2008. He has helped see the team go from basement dweller to playoff contender and embodies the hard-nosed, defensive style that frustrates opposing teams and earns them the nickname “Grit and Grind”. To see Gasol have to go through this, while the Grizzlies are in the middle of a playoff push no less, is unfortunate but the sooner he recovers, the better.

The Grizzlies have since put up a “Get Well Marc” wall in which his teammates and fans can put up tweets and photos to wish him a speedy recovery.
