No. 6 Michigan State Spartans vs Ohio State Buckeyes

Michigan State jumped two spots in both the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll this week and will be looking to move up even more and make a case for a No. 1 seed come March Madness. The Spartans have won six out of seven games after that tough three-game losing streak back in January. Can Michigan State win out and earn a one-seed?

Denzel Valentine has helped the Spartans’ case while also assisting in his own. The senior guard is a strong National Player of the Year candidate, and deservedly so. He’s averaging a conference-high 19.7 points to go along with 7.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists while shooting about 45 percent from long range. Keep an eye out also for sharpshooting Bryn Forbes and double-double machine Matt Costello.

With a rough final stretch of the season looming, the Ohio State Buckeyes will look to extend their current four-game win streak. The Buckeyes have to host No. 6 Michigan State and No. 8 Iowa this week and then hit the road to close out the season at Michigan State next week. It’s probably the toughest remaining schedule in the Big Ten.

The Buckeyes don’t have that one natural scorer that they’ve had in years past with guys like Evan Turner, Greg Oden, Jared Sullinger, Deshaun Thomas or D’Angelo Russell. That alone makes it tough for this team to put up points. Marc Loving currently leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 12.6 points per game while Keita Bates-Diop, Jae’Sean Tate and JaQuan Lyle are close behind — all in double-figures.
