Fantasy Basketball: What To Do With Chris Bosh?
By Dave Fuqua
What To Do With Chris Bosh?
Chris Bosh is currently sidelined due to a blood clot and the fact that he is having to take blood thinners to get him back in to shape. For fantasy owners this can do several things depending on where you are in the standings and what type of league you play in. This is also a recurring condition so he is now facing pressure from doctors and the Heat organization to go ahead and sit out the rest of the season. Now for most athletes that is the last thing that you want to hear.
If you are a fantasy owner who has Chris Bosh and you are wondering what to do some of this is going to be guesswork, but if you will play your cards correctly you can still come out ahead in this situation.
If you own Chris Bosh in a standard redraft league and you are comfortably in first place then you may want to hang on until the Heat release an official statement on the big man’s future for the season. There is an outside chance that he can come back and still contribute for your team. If you are in a redraft league and you are fighting to get in you have a few possible options.

First off you can try to trade him for a pretty good discount to a team that is secure in its position. They may be willing to make a deal that if he comes back to play could really boost their chances of taking the league title. However, if you can’t make a trade fairly quickly you may be best served to take a flier on the next hot free agent and send Bosh to the waiver wire.
If you are in a keeper league and you have Chris Bosh I feel like your options are a lot more wide open. If you are scrounging for a chance to win your league and you own Bosh then you can dangle out a few trade offers to the guys who have no shot to win the league. Offer up Bosh as a keeper upgrade and hope for the best. Usually you can pick up a keeper of lesser value and possibly a depth piece to help you get ahead.
I feel like that when the news does break that the chances are good that Bosh will be sitting out the rest of this season. I can’t imagine that the Heat would want to play with fire here and risk losing Bosh and possibly even losing his life. Blood clots are a very serious medical issue and I think that safety will be the likely course of action.
