Broncos confident they’ll lock down Von Miller

The Denver Broncos are optimistic that a long term deal will be completed with star outside linebacker Von Miller.

Von Miller proved this year that, if you didn’t believe it already, he is one of the best edge rushers in the NFL. He and DeMarcus Ware presented major problems for opposing offensive lines, and when coupled with the best secondary in the league, created a truly elite defense. This defense won the Broncos the Super Bowl, with Miller being named as the game’s MVP, but now the focus has turned to next season and there is significant reason to think that Miller will no longer be in Denver.

Miller is a free agent entering this offseason and there will be many suitors of the outside linebacker. The Broncos have some, but not much, cap space to work with – though they do have a lot of pieces on the defensive side of the ball to tie up. Miller is the biggest of these and Denver are optimistic of signing him to a longer term deal.

The franchise tag is an option for John Elway, but with a wide open quarterback position to tie up, as well as defensive lineman Malik Jackson, Elway may not want to use the tag on Miller and focus on tying him down for more than just one year. It will be a huge offseason for the Super Bowl champions. If they have any hopes of defending their crown they must begin by re-signing their biggest names, and none come bigger than Von Milller. Thankfully for Broncos’ fans, the organization seems confident that a deal could be done before free agency gets underway.
