According to a report, Rockets guard James Harden is the one behind Kevin McHale getting fired and the attempt to trade Dwight Howard.

The Houston Rockets’ season has had a failure to launch and the team has skyrocketed to a level of dysfunction, which could very well shake the foundation the franchise is currently sitting on. It all started off when the team got off to a slow start and fired head coach Kevin McHale, after the Rockets had just made the Western Conference Finals last season.

The team continued to struggle for most of this season and as the NBA Trade Deadline was drawing near in early February, there were reports that the team was trying to move center Dwight Howard to anyone that would take him. Howard wouldn’t be move and there were growing reports of dissension between him and James Harden.

Now it appears that it is abundantly clear just who calls all the shots in Houston. According to CBS Sports’ Ken Berger, Harden was indeed the one behind the move to convince management to fire McHale and to try to trade Howard.

While Harden is the team’s superstar and makes the engine go in Houston, it’s clear that he wields more power than any player in this league should. While superstars getting coaches fired and demanding other players to be traded is not a new concept at all, it’s certainly not a good look for Harden and it makes it even tougher for the rest of his teammates.

General manager Daryl Morey has had this grand plan of collecting assets and turning them into superstars in Houston. He has done that and landed Harden and Howard on the team. Now, one of his superstars is trying to get the other traded and has reportedly put the Rockets in an unbelievably tough position.None of this healthy is for the Rockets in any sense and at some point, when will push come to shove between the Rockets and Harden?
