The Chicago Blackhawks are reportedly seriously interested in trading for Vancouver Canucks defenseman Dan Hamhuis and forward Radim Vrbata

The Chicago Blackhawks are a team that has proven that they are not afraid to make huge deals at the NHL trade deadline. Last season, the Arizona Coyotes helped them make a Stanley Cup run by agreeing to send center Antoine Vermette to them. This season, the Vancouver Canucks could do the same thing by sending them defenseman Dan Hamhuis or forward Radim Vrbata. Chicago has reportedly expressed serious interest in both.

Hamhuis would have to waive his no-trade clause in order to be traded. He will be a free agent after this season. Hamhuis has stated that he and his family are very happy in Vancouver. He has been with the Canucks since 2010. To this point, the Canucks have not asked him to waive that no trade clause. They could pull off what the Coyotes did last offseason by trading Hamhuis and re-signing him once he becomes a free agent.

Radim Vrbata could be an intriguing target for the Blackhawks. He might not the best fit on the first line with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa (once Hossa gets healthy), but perhaps Hossa’s injury could make Vrbata a more attractive option for Chicago. He has experience playing on the top line in Vancouver with Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin. Vrbata would likely be cheap as well.

Regardless of what they do, the Blackhawks should be a very busy team over the next few days.
