If the Chicago Bears allow wide receiver Alshon Jeffery to hit the open market, a number of teams will be interested.
Wide receiver looks to be the weakest position group of the 2016 NFL free agent class, with one major exception.
Chicago Bears standout Alshon Jeffery is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason. A true impact talent, adding him would improve nearly any offense in the NFL.
In four seasons in the NFL, Jeffery has racked up 252 catches for 3,728 yards and 24 touchdowns. His best season came in 2013, where he nearly broke the 1,500 yard mark, and he followed that with another 1,000 yard season in 2014. There’s a chance Jeffery could become even better, or at least more consistent, as nagging injuries have held him back a bit in recent years.
While the Bears would like him back next season, there have been conflicting reports of the team’s intentions in recent weeks. Some have suggested that Chicago would allow Jeffery to test the market, while others have stated that the team will use the franchise tag on him.
With the weak class of receivers behind him, Jeffery certainly would generate plenty of interest in free agency. Still, there’s only a few teams with both a glaring need at receiver and enough money to sign Jeffery. Others like the Baltimore Ravens probably don’t have the cap space to take on such a big contract.
The most likely destination for Jeffery next season is still Chicago, but if the it decides to move on for whatever reason, a few other teams would be a great fit.
