Carmelo Anthony threw down a massive dunk over a former Knicks teammate in Jason Smith

Jason Smith once played with Carmelo Anthony on the New York Knicks. It was only for the 2014-15 season (which Anthony missed nearly half of due to injury), but the fact remains that they once called Madison Square Garden home as they faced off on Friday night with Melo still on the Knicks and Smith now on the Orlando Magic. Smith probably wished he was still in New York, though.

In the second quarter as the Knicks were starting to mount an impressive lead over Orlando, Anthony got the ball on the left side on the baseline. He powered by his defender in Aaron Gordon and Smith tried to rise up at the rim and stop Melo. As it turns out, that was an uninformed decision because the veteran superstar threw down a thunderous two-handed jam right in the Magic big man’s grill:

Just for the record, Gordon also made sure to get in on the Carmelo Anthony poster on the dunk as well—albeit on the peripherals of the play.

Anthony has been a frustrating entity for much of this season. While he has still remained one of the better players in the entire league, the question of whether his ceiling in regards to performance has been lowered at his age and coming off of the knee injuries last year lingers. Whatever the case, he looked quite spry and quite healthy when he took it to the rack on Gordon and Smith on Friday night.
