The Chicago Bears will place the franchise tag on wide receiver Alshon Jeffery
The Chicago Bears have been trying to sign wide receiver Alshon Jeffery to a long-term deal for quite some time. While they have not been able to work one out with him yet, they will definitely be keeping him for at least one more season. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Bears will use their franchise tag on the talented young receiver.
Hardly a surprise, but Bears are placing franchise tag on WR Alshon Jeffery, per team source.

The Bears will pay Jeffery $14.4 million dollars by assigning the franchise tag to him. This will also allow them to have some more time to work out a long-term deal with Jeffery as well as see if last year’s injuries are behind him before they invest a ton of money and years into him.
Over his four year career with the Bears, Jeffery has 252 receptions with 3,728 receiving yards and has averaged 73.1 receiving yards per game. He has averaged over 70 yards per game in each of his last three seasons. Jeffery has 21 touchdowns over his last three seasons while playing in 41 games. He ranked 10th in the NFL in receptions (89) in 2013, when the Bears receiver made his first and only Pro Bowl. His career 14.8 yards per reception put him 16th among all active players.
