Houston Rockets waive Marcus Thornton
Marcus Thornton needs a new home after being waived by the Houston Rockets
Marcus Thornton has been around the league in a short period of time. The 28-year old shooting guard has been trying to fit on one team for the long run, but to no avail and Friday is another example of that.
It was announced that a few days after the Houston Rockets tried to trade him, Thornton has been waived by the team.
This week has been a very busy one for Thornton, who was originally part of the February 18th trade with the Pistons and the 76ers involving Donatas Motiejunas. Once Motiejunas failed his physical however, the deal was off.
Thornton has been a good bench player for Houston, averaging 10.0 points and 2.4 rebounds. He is now hoping to make it to a contending team. Before packing up, Thornton stated the following to the fans, giving them hope for the future:
Thornton was selected 43rd overall by the Miami Heat in the 2009 NBA draft, before his rights were traded to the then New Orleans Hornets. During his time there, he set a franchise rookie record with 117 three-pointers in a season. Thornton was then traded to the Sacramento Kings, where he had a productive four seasons. He averaged 14.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game as a starter. After that he moved around, either via trade or signing with another team. He’s been to Brooklyn, Boston and Phoenix before finally signing with the Rockets.
Where will Marcus Thornton go now? There are plenty of teams looking for a resourceful bench player. Miami, who has been linked to Joe Johnson, could also come out as the favorites to land Thornton. If the Pistons are still interested, they could also pick him up. The Knicks could use someone as well to help out with depth. Just a few hours removed from the Rockets, there is still plenty of interest in Marcus Thornton.
