Kristaps Porzingis forgets to guard Aaron Gordon (Video)
Kristaps Porzingis didn’t guard Aaron Gordon after a missed shot, which led to Gordon crashing the boards for a dunk.
There’s plenty of young talent on display in Madison Square Garden on Friday night, with the New York Knicks hosting the Orlando Magic. After a thrilling Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend, Magic forward Aaron Gordon has been the talk of the league. On Friday night, he matched up with Knicks rookie sensation Kristaps Porzingis.
On one play in particular, Gordon got the better of Porzingis. As Magic guard Evan Fournier drove the paint for a layup, Gordon trailed behind him and crashed the boards for the putback. The problem for the Knicks being that Porzingis didn’t follow Gordon all the way and his failure to guard him led to points.
Porzingis had a bit of a memory gaffe on the play and he got caught watching the play instead of following his defensive assignment all the way through. The good news for Porzingis is that he’s hardly the first to allow Gordon to crash the boards and score on a putback.
After all, Gordon proved at the Slam Dunk Contest that he can go up and over anything for a score.
