The Montreal Canadiens have traded forwards Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann to the Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks continue to stock up for their annual playoff run as they try to defend their Stanley Cup title. Chicago has acquired forwards Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann for forward Phillip Danault and a 2018 second round pick. This further increases their forward depth, which is important since the Blackhawks plan to be playing well into the month of June.

Fleischmann and Weise should both help the Blackhawks improve their third and fourth forward lines. Weise is expected to make the bigger impact of the two. Both of the Canadiens forwards will be unrestricted free agents after this season, which is very important for the Blackhawks, who are constantly fighting the salary cap. Weise has 26 points in 56 games while Flesichmann has 20 points in 57 games.

Montreal gets a very nice return for their two pending free agents. The second round pick might be in 2018, but it’s still a second round pick and that’s quite valuable. Montreal also gets a solid forward in Danault.

“Phillip Danault is a young and gifted player who will be part of our core group of young forwards for many years to come,” said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin, via NHL.com. “I am very pleased to have him join our organization.”
