Kyle Busch was faster than the rest and won the pole for the 2016 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Atlanta Motor Speedway offers drivers a bit of a reset after the nerves and two-week buildup of the Daytona 500. Denny Hamlin left Florida the winner and with a spot in the Chase after last week’s thrilling end, but this week, every driver is looking to join Hamlin with a spot in the Chase and capture glory at the 2016 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.
The first round of Friday’s qualifying saw guys like Kyle Busch, Trevor Bayne and Kyle Larson dominate, just like they had done in practice. One individual that couldn’t get a rhythm was Joey Logano.
Logano didn’t advance to the second round and after an average week of practice, he just couldn’t get anything going early. He will have some work to do on Sunday, if he’s going to grab the second spot in the postseason this year.
Early in the second round, it was Kurt Busch that set the tone early, but out of nowhere, Jamie McMurray just edged out Busch’s best time, to take the lead heading into the third and final round.
In the end, Kurt would see his fastest time in the final round be bested by his brother, as Kyle posted the fastest time in the final round and won the pole for the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.
