Tampa Bay Lightning sign Braydon Coburn to three-year extension
The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that they have extended defenseman Braydon Coburn.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have announced that they have signed Braydon Coburn to a three-year extension worth $11.1 million. Coburn will have a full no trade clause for the first two years of the deal (which goes into effect at the beginning of the 2016-2017 season) and a limited no-trade clause for the final season.
From NHL.com:
"Coburn, 30, has played in 60 games with the Lightning this season, recording one goal and nine points to go along with 45 penalty minutes. He ranks tied for fourth on the club for plus/minus with a plus-8 rating. Coburn ranks third on the club for both hits (90) and blocked shots (69). Since being acquired from the Philadelphia Flyers in a trade last season, Coburn has skated in 64 regular season games with the Lightning, posting a goal and 11 points."
Coburn has one goal and eight assists for nine points this season in 60 games for the Lightning. He has averaged 16:39 of ice time this season for the Lightning.
It remains to be seen how extending Coburn will affect things down the road as Tampa Bay has to deal with Steven Stamkos’s free agency after this season as well as numerous pay raises due to their young players. They also have to deal with defenseman Victor Hedman’s free agency after the 2016-2017 season.
Last year, the Chicago Blackhawks were able to knock off Tampa Bay in the Stanley Cup Final. This year, the Lightning are hoping to win their second title in franchise history.
