NBA fans have adopted a new fad, autograph fishing. Kevin Durant has been the latest NBA player to take the bait on the innovative way to grab players’ attention.

One of the best parts of getting to go to an NBA game is the chance that you might be able to interact with an NBA player. Coming an hour before tip-off is a must for any true NBA fan so you can see the best of the best warm up. The holy grail of getting to a game beforehand is getting a player’s autograph. Sometimes, though, they’re just a bit out of reach, but with the new autograph fishing fad, even that distance is not a problem.

The first occurrence of this was when Stephen Curry came to Philadelphia and fans waited when he came to the 20-foot lowered players entrance.

Now, on a bit of a smaller scale, it’s happening in arenas as well. Before the Oklahoma City Thunder took on the Golden State Warriors on Saturday night, some fans stood above the Thunder player tunnel in hopes that they could get an autograph from KD. They fished their memorabilia down on a string and had KD sign it.

Getting an autograph from a player is pretty cool, but image getting to tell a story that starts with “well, I was fishing for an autograph from Kevin Durant.” That’s pretty cool. It’s not clear if the NBA will do anything to ban this, because that distance between fans and players is often by design to keep fans out of the reach of players.
