The San Antonio Spurs have received a commitment from veteran point guard Andre Miller who recently had his contract bought out by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

It’s that time of year when players are getting their contracts bought out by the teams they play for to explore other options. We already saw Joe Johnson get his contract bought out by the Brooklyn Nets so he could go and commit to the Miami Heat. Now, veteran point guard Andre Miller has been bought out by the Minnesota Timberwolves and has agreed to sign with the San Antonio Spurs.

The T’Wolves weren’t playing Miller much at all (Miller played just over 10 minutes per game with the Wolves this season), and getting him off of their roster allows them to use an open roster spot to do whatever they want with. They can explore what’s available in free agency or even call up a player from the D-League and offer them a 10-day contract to see how well they can play on the NBA level.

Miller has 16 years of experience in the NBA, which fits perfectly with the mold that head coach Gregg Poppovich has for his Spurs — they are filled with veterans. Currently the Spurs have a great starting point guard in Tony Parker, but their backups could be beaten out by Miller. Patty Mills and Ray McCallum haven’t done much at all this season.

Miller, who has to be nearing retirement, will be playing on his 10th NBA team when he suits up for the Spurs. He has never been on a team that won an NBA title, but he will have a decent shot with the Spurs this season.
