NFL Draft Rumors: Carson Wentz favored to be No. 1 QB picked

Carson Wentz has officially shot to the top of NFL draft boards.

Each year, it seems that this time of year produces a random NFL draft darling that everyone falls in love with. This is usually some player from a small school who shoots up mock drafts because there is some universal idea that he’s going to be a star in the NFL.

Typically, this never happens, but you can set your watch to it. Usually said player who shoots up the mock drafts is a quarterback, and this year that player is North Dakota’s Carson Wentz.

According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Wentz is now believed to be the favorite to be the first quarterback off the board. Unless the Titans snag a trade for the No. 1 overall pick, this means Wentz is the favorite to be drafted by the Cleveland Browns the slot below them.

Cleveland has long bene rumored to be taken who they believe will be a franchise quarterback with their first pick. Johnny Manziel is going to be cut on March 9th and the Browns aren’t going to be handing their future to Josh McCown or Austin Davis. The question is, who can the Browns take that will continue their tradition of royally screwing everything up?

That guy appears to be Wentz — but through no real fault of his own. It’s the pundits who have massaged his stock to the level of maturity, so the Browns are just acting on hype. There is no question that they should draft a quarterback with their first pick, but making that pick the wild card darling is so Cleveland that it just has to happen.
