No. 1 Villanova Wildcats vs Marquette Golden Eagles

Yet another No. 1 team has fallen as the Villanova Wildcats lost at No. 5 Xavier earlier this week and there’s going to be a new top team in college basketball on Monday. Still, though, the Wildcats have won 15 out of 17 games and are looking like a pretty solid bet to get either a No. 1 or No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Josh Hart is putting together a great season for the Wildcats, leading the team with 15.0 points and second with 7.4 boards per contest. Freshman guard Jalen Brunson was one of the top recruits in the country for 2015 and he hasn’t disappointed, averaging 10.6 points and 2.7 assists per game while shooting a team-best 37 percent from three-point range.

The Big East has been surprisingly competitive this season as it has a shot to send about six or seven teams to the tourney. The Marquette Golden Eagles are one of those bubble teams at 18-10 and 7-8 in conference play. They have a couple of quality wins against Providence this year, but winning out will be the safest bet for Marquette to get in.

Another one of the nation’s top 2015 recruits was big man Henry Ellenson who’s leading the team in scoring and rebounding. He’s putting up 16.7 points while grabbing 10.0 rebounds and swatting 1.6 shots per game. Junior center Luke Fischer has been solid as well this season, averaging 12.3 points and 6.6 boards while also swatting 1.6 shots per contest.
