Eric Gordon: Should You Pick Him Up?
Eric Gordon returned from injury on the 27th of February in spectacular form. He has missed a whole month and upon returning showed no signs of rust and really just went straight to work and turned in a 31 point, three assists, two rebounds, two steals and four three-pointers type of performance. Gordon pulled all of this off in 34 minutes of work. It really seems like Gordon did a great job of maintaining his conditioning and jumped right back into the injury-depleted roster of the Pelicans.
So should you pick up Gordon and the answer is yes. He should not have any problem getting all the minutes that he can handle and will likely be at or above the 34 minute mark in most games going forward. Now you might want to temper your expectations just a little bit as I don’t expect him to deliver this kind of performance on a regular basis, but he is certainly worth a pickup.
The thing that jumps out at me after tonight was the fact that Gordon played five more minutes than Norris Cole. Now this could have been due to any number of factors, but if you own Cole this might be worth keeping your eyes on. My guess is there is enough minutes to go around and support both Cole and Gordon, but nonetheless as a Cole owner in a few leagues I will be keeping my eyes to the box scores.
As for what I would do with Gordon in keeper or dynasty leagues in a word would be sell, sell, sell. I realize that is three words, but I hope you grasp what I am saying to you. Gordon is another player who seems to constantly suffer with injuries and is not a player you want around long-term on you fantasy team. The way he misses games and sits out with injuries can be a real detriment to any competitive fantasy basketball team.
He will however most likely be a nice asset for your daily fantasy basketball rosters. He should be at a very low price with the minutes that he is getting he should be a great bargain even when you factor in the fact that he is unlikely to have that great of a game again. Gordon is a good player and as long as you know he is on the court he is a safe bet to deliver you plenty of points in either a season long league or a daily league.
So in other words if you are in a re-draft league then you need to run and pick up Gordon as fast as you can, but if you are in a keeper league this could be a good reason to sell high and upgrade your team.
