Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 2016: Official results from Atlanta

Jimmie Johnson was faster than the rest at the 2016 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

For 210 laps on Sunday, there wasn’t a caution. It was the longest stretch of green-flag racing in Atlanta Motor Speedway history and it really tested the mettle of the drivers, as they couldn’t use a caution to reset and adjust things accordingly.

Just when it looked like it was going to be the Toyotas of Joe Gibbs Racing dominating this week, the trio of Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr. and Jimmie Johnson did their best to hold Kyle Busch and the rest of the drivers off at the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.

The best shot a Toyota had at winning, might have been lost early because of a fuel can. When Matt Kenseth came in for a fuel stop, the crew member fueling his car set a tool on the deck lid for another crew member to use. That is a violation as that crew member is only allowed to fuel a car. Kenseth’s crew would then miss a black flag and he would be penalized a lap.

When Harvick finally took the lead in the middle of the race, he began to dominate and separate himself from the rest of the competition. Harvick was then done in by brilliant pit stop by Johnson and then Johnson survived a late caution to win, while Harvick would finish sixth overall.

With a big win by Johnson, that tied Dale Earnhardt Sr. for wins with 76, Johnson is now going to the Chase. Here are the official results from the 2016 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.
