Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 2016: Updated Chase standings
Here’s the updated NASCAR Chase standings after the 2016 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.
On Sunday, it wasn’t a demolition derby or drivers spinning out on the track at Atlanta Motor Speedway. It was 210 laps of green-flag racing before the first caution of the day came out at the 2016 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500.
Kurt Busch began the race in the lead, after Kyle Busch failed inspection after qualifying. Busch would take his turn in the lead early, but with all the green-flag racing, there were plenty of lead changes among drivers.
Last week’s winner, Denny Hamlin, tried his shot at the front for a little bit on Sunday. Hamlin’s already got his spot in the Chase locked up, so it was a great race for him to work on things, as he will have plenty of time to get ready for the Chase.
Last year’s race winner, Jimmie Johnson, spent a good chunk of time early on in the lead or near the front. Johnson showed his strong ability at mile and a half racing. Up with Johnson was Kevin Harvick. Like last season and last week, Harvick spent the majority of his race near the front and spent time in the lead.
However, his 131 laps led weren’t enough, as Harvick had a bad pit stop and Johnson had a great one that gave him a huge lead. Johnson survived a restart at the end and after a crash in overtime, Johnson was awarded the win.
With Johnson’s big win at Atlanta, here are the updated NASCAR Chase and Drivers standings.
