Which drivers are trending up or down after the 2016 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway?
The 2016 Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 was certainly one of the more interesting races in quite some time. The day started out with 210 laps of green-flag racing, which is a record at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and ended in complete chaos in overtime.
For the second-consecutive year, Jimmie Johnson won at Atlanta and punched his ticket to the Chase. Not only is Johnson moving on, but he also tied Dale Earnhardt Sr. for seventh-most wins all time with 76. After winning the race, Johnson held out three fingers in tribute to one of the greatest in the history of the sport.
It appeared as if Johnson was going to have the easy win at first on Sunday. After Kevin Harvick fell behind several seconds because of a bad pit stop and great pit strategy by Johnson, the race was all but over. However, Ryan Newman spun out with three laps remaining and the race went into overtime.
That was where Johnson held onto his lead and he passed the necessary point for it to be called a race, when a massive wreck broke out behind him. His teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr., managed to somehow jump into the second position and it was a great day for Hendrick Motorsports.
After a chaotic ending to what was a pleasant day, many drivers are trending up and many drivers are trending down. Hereās this weekās NASCAR Power Rankings.
