Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello’s stick helped a lucky fan find a date for prom

New York Rangers forward Mats Zuccarello is known to work magic with his hockey stick. The diminutive forward tends to do things that leaves fans with their jaws on the floor. He has 188 points in 284 career regular seasons games, including 123 assists. Before the Rangers game against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Mon. Feb. 29, Zuccarello made an assist that might have a lasting impact.

Two teenagers were at the game. The male, Vinny Mutone, made a bet with his girlfriend Catherine De Pinho. If Zuccarello gave Mutone a stick, De Piho would go to prom with Mutone. Zuccarello saw the sign while skating off the ice during warmups and grabbed an extra stick. He told a security guard to give it to them.

“We both love the Rangers and we’re going to a game, so I thought I know the players like to be nice to the fans and stuff,” Mutone said, via New York Daily News. “So I thought about making a sign. I love Zuccarello. He’s my favorite player.”

De Pinho would have gone with him to prom even had he not gotten Mats Zuccarello’s stick. The couple have been dating for about a month.

It’s great that Zuccarello realized that his stick doesn’t just work magic on the ice. Sometimes it can even work magic off the ice as well.
