Andre Miller is only on the Spurs so Tim Duncan can feel young again
By Dan Favale
If you thought the San Antonio Spurs signed Andre Miller to add some extra depth at point guard, you were not alone.
You were also wrong.
The San Antonio Spurs had an ulterior motive when acquiring Miller. Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News unveiled their reasoning, and James Herbert of CBS Sports provided a screenshot of the details for all the world to see:
Both Duncan and Miller are 39 years old, but the latter has actually walked the earth for 37 days longer. If seeing someone more than a full month older than himself on the roster doesn’t inject a youthful sensation into Duncan’s soul, nothing will.
Okay, maybe not nothing. The Spurs have the option of pointing out that, while he remembers existing among the dinosaurs, he has barely lost a step. He remains one of the NBA’s most valuable rim protectors and interior playmakers, and San Antonio’s defense wouldn’t be where it is today without him.
And if that doesn’t work, the Spurs can always get Duncan a cyborg Superman costume to wear on off days and rest nights:
And if this still doesn’t work, well, that’s where Andre Miller comes in. Duncan is old, but he’s older and, most importantly, closer to living off Metamucil-oatmeal breakfast shakes than his new teammate.
