Fairly often after a whistle near their own basket, NBA players will try to put on a show for the fans with a dunk. While those dunks aren’t often the best or most creative ones, the power that can come out of these uncontested affairs is normally pretty fun. Early in Tuesday night’s game against the Portland Trailblazers, Carmelo Anthony tried to show off for his hometown fans with a dunk after Ed Davis blocked a shot out-of-bounds. Unfortunately for Melo, the dunk is going to go viral for all the wrong reasons.

At least Melo took things in stride, laughing with fellow players and the officials shortly after the embarrassing play. The worst part seems to be how far he actually was from completing that dunk. That was a bottom of the rim, rim check with isn’t ever a good thing.

Maybe Kurt Rambis should stop playing him for the entire second half of games so Melo has some energy left in his legs at the end of the season.
