Bills release Leodis McKelvin
The Buffalo Bills have parted ways with Leodis McKelvin.
Buffalo is up against the $155 million salarp cap, and it is making some very tough choices. Another one came on Friday morning, when the team released cornerback Leodis McKelvin, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
McKelvin is 30 years old and might be looking to play for a winner after being stuck with the Bills since being drafted with the 11th-overall pick out of Troy. McKelvin has dealt with injuries thorughout most of his eight seasons, only playing a full 16 games once.
With the emergence of both Stephon Gilmore and Ronald Darby, paying McKelvin no longer made sense for general manager Doug Whaley, who is desperately trying to create cap space in the hope of keeping guard Richie Incognito. Before this release, Buffalo has $1.5 million cap space but now have $5.4 million. However, the Bills will have to carry $1 million in dead money against the cap.
Whaley needs to do a much better job of managing the cap, considering the Bills have not made the playoffs in his six years at the helm. How can a team have no money and a middling roster? Points to problems in management.
