Jaromir Jagr reached 1,850 points on Thursday night, tying him for third on the NHL’s all-time scoring list with Gordie Howe.

The NHL record books were updated on Thursday night as Jaromir Jagr moved up another spot on the all-time points list.

With a secondary assist on a goal by Eric Gudbranson, Jagr reached 1,850 career points tying Gordie Howe for third on the all-time scoring list. To move up to second, Jagr needs 37 more points to pass Mark Messier. With only 18 games left in the regular season, it would be a near impossible task to close that gap. Jagr is in the final year of his contract and it is unknown if he will play next season.

The 44-year old Czech Republic native made his NHL debut in 1990 with the Pittsburgh Penguins, and played in the league until 2008 when he went over to the KHL. After three seasons playing in Russia, Jagr returned to the NHL as a Philadelphia Flyer in 2011, and he signed a two-year deal with the Florida Panthers in 2014.

Jagr is currently the team’s leader in goals and points for the season, and a key reason in why Florida holds top spot in the Atlantic Division.

If Jagr continues to play past this season, it will be his 26th season in the league, and he would easily take over second on the all-time scoring list from Messier, but Wayne Gretzky’s hold on first place is untouchable at 2857 points. Jagr is the only non-Canadian born player in the top ten of the all-time scoring list. In fact there are only two non-Canadians in the top 20, Jagr, and Finland’s Teemu Selanne at 15.
