NFL Rumors: Broncos moving on from Peyton Manning, focusing on Brock Osweiler
By Jack Crosby
Peyton Manning’s time with the Denver Broncos very well may be coming to an end and now there’s more proof.
Peyton Manning has yet to make a decision on his future in the NFL nearly a month after the Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl, but if he does choose to continue his playing career, it’s clearly looking more and more like it won’t be for his current franchise.
According to the Denver Post, the team did not ask him to take a physical by the deadline on Friday, and furthermore, they’ve now turned their focus to locking up Brock Osweiler for the long-term, Manning’s backup that’s set to hit the free agent market. In the report it states that the offer they made to Osweiler is similar to that of Nick Foles with the Los Angeles Rams at just a little over $12 million per season.
Really, this whole saga just gets stranger and stranger, but as time moves on here, it really does appear as if not only will Manning never wear a Broncos uniform again, but he might still be on the field next year wearing a different uniform altogether. In the span of a month, we all went from being near certain that Peyton would be hanging up the cleats if he came away with his second Lombardi Trophy to now trying to imagine what uniform he could be wearing next season.
Sooner or later, though, we’re going to find out definitively what Manning intends to do in the near future, and we could find that out as early as next week. But as for right now, it’s being made pretty clear that the Broncos are thankful for Manning helping them get a Super Bowl win, but they’re ready to start a new chapter with Osweiler.
