Sprint Cup: 2016 Kobalt 400 qualifying results

Here are the complete qualifying results for Sunday’s Kobalt 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Two races are in the books for NASCAR and two drivers have earned themselves a spot in the Chase, to compete for a Sprint Cup Championship. This week, NASCAR invades Las Vegas, for the 2016 Kobalt 400, where a third driver will look to earn a spot in the Chase.

Early on in qualifying, it was the usual suspects hanging around the top, with Kurt Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards and others showing their strength at the 1.5-mile track early on. It was a bad first round for Jamie McMurray, who got loose and hit the wall. Last week, McMurray had a strong qualifying but failed to do anything with it during the race.

In the second round, Carl Edwards lost control and hit the war hard. The back end of his car would be torn up and he would suffer major damage to the rear of the car. This would ruin Brian Vickers’ subsequent run, as NASCAR threw out the red flag during qualifying.

For the second week in a row, Busch would win qualifying. This time, he took the pole instead of being handed it and Busch will be a strong contender to pick up his first win of the season and a spot in the Chase on Sunday.
