Wendall Williams runs record 4.19 40-yard dash at NFL regional draft combine

Wendall Williams turned heads with his record breaking 4.19 second run in the 40-yard dash at the NFL regional draft combine

A 4.24 second 40-yard dash in 2008 helped catapult East Carolina running back Chris Johnson into the first round of the NFL draft. Now can a very little known player from the University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky turn an even faster time into a draft day success?

Wide receiver Wendall Williams turned heads with a breathtaking time of 4.19 seconds in the 40-yard dash during the regional draft combine that the NFL held in Winter Park, Minnesota on Saturday.

Williams hopes to earn a spot in the NFL, but comes in with much less pedigree than the man whose time he beat. Competing in the NAIA Division I didn’t bring him much attention, and his low number of receptions didn’t help either.

The 5-foot-10 185 pound receiver only caught 15 passes last season, although he managed to turn those receptions into 457 yards and an impressive eight touchdowns. He added another three touchdowns on the ground with just seven carries for 205 yards.

He may lack the polish, but some team may be enamored enough with the track star’s pure speed to give him a shot as a potential return man and special teams ace. One thing that’s for sure, his chances of realizing that dream are much more realistic after clocking the record breaking feat.
