The Tigers are keeping their offensive coordinator in Baton Rouge for at least three more seasons.
Just over a month ago (as National Signing Day was coming to a close), the rumors began to swirl out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana that the LSU Tigers were going to part ways with offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.
It had been no secret that the former college and NFL head coach hasn’t been all that popular down on the bayou, taking plenty of heat for the lackluster offensive numbers shown by LSU during the 2015 season (except for running back star Leonard Fournette, who even had his own struggles late in the year).
As it turns out, not only is Cameron going to keep his job with LSU, but it looks as if he is going to get more time with the program. The Baton Rouge Advocate is reporting that the school is going to give a contract extension to Cameron before the 2016 season:
"Cameron’s new deal is expected to be similar to that of defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, hired away from Wisconsin in January to replace Kevin Steele. The contracts must now be approved by LSU Board of Supervisors at the board’s next meeting on March 18.Cameron’s old contract – a three-year deal paying him $1.5 million over the last year – has been in limbo for some time, as it ends March 31. The financial terms of his new contract were not revealed."
Head coach Les Miles had sided with Cameron as rumors of a possible change continued to fly. Miles has said the coaching staff will visit with other programs over the summer in an effort to learn some new things that can help turn things around.
Cameron will enter his fourth season with the program in 2016, where he came after spending five years as the offensive coordinator for the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens
