Kevin Durant might indeed stay with the Thunder this summer, but there’s a pretty big catch

Every year in NBA Free Agency there’s a big name that could make a potentially big move, and this summer that name is undoubtedly Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant. Heck, for the past few seasons, with everyone knowing that his free agency was coming up, we’ve all speculated whether or not one of the best in the game and former MVP winner would move on to greener pastures or stay with the only team that he’s known as a professional.

Well, he could stay with the Thunder this summer … but there’s a catch.

Joel Meyers, the voice of the New Orleans Pelicans, appeared on Sirius XM Radio Monday and he explained that he’s heard if this Thunder team this season does not make the NBA Finals, then he will be looking to play elsewhere.

"I made some calls over the weekend, Vinny. If they don’t, I’m told if they don’t at least get to the NBA Finals, Durant’s gone. Simple as that."

That’s quite the stipulation, especially seeing as making the NBA Finals representing the Western Conference is not something that looks in the cards for this Thunder team.

First of all, of course you have those guys named the Golden State Warriors. This season, while they did play them well at times, Durant and the Thunder fell on all three occasions the teams faced off. So when you think about a potential seven-game series — yeah, you can do the math on that one.

Then you have the San Antonio Spurs, the second-best team in the Western Conference who are battering opponents in their own right.

Finally, you have the fact that Durant and the Thunder have some issues this season with preserving leads, so in the grand scheme of things, unless there are some drastic changes, they’re not making the NBA Finals.

So with that said, if this report is true, get ready for KD to get courted!
