Sylvain Marveaux is out injured for the rest of the season with yet another groin injury.
Newcastle United have bought excellently in the transfer market over the past few seasons. Examples such as Wijnaldum, Yohann Cabaye and Demba Ba illustrate were insightful purchases. However, like any club that is busy in the transfer market, they have also brought in some real rubbish, and not many come worse than Sylvain Marveaux.
The winger was signed in 2011 on a free transfer, and in his five-year tenure at the club, has only played a meager 38 games, most of them off the bench. Consequently, it should be no surprise to find out that he will now miss the rest of the year with another injury, this time his groin.
The French attacking midfielder has been suffering with the groin injury all year long, and, per The Chronicle, he is now expected to not return to fitness before the end of the year, and with his contract set to expire in the Summer, he is highly unlikely to have played his last match with the Magpies.
It has been a season to forget for Newcastle. Steve McClaren came to the club in the summer and has spent significant amounts of money on bringing in a variety of players. However, the players that have been brought in are simply not up to scratch, and they are now staring down the barrel of the gun that is relegation. It has been a terrible season for the North East club, and their troubles are perhaps epitomized by the quietly terrible Newcastle career of Sylvain Marveaux.
