NFL Trade Rumors: Dolphins trying to acquire Byron Maxwell

The AFC East franchise is looking for help in their secondary and reportedly are willing to make a trade.

While NFL free agency is just around the corner, there is still plenty of discussion going around involving wheeling and dealing between franchises. The Miami Dolphins, coming off a 6-10 season in 2015, are in the market for some much needed help in their secondary.

As it turns out, the Philadelphia Eagles are also in the market to get rid of one member of their secondary, cornerback Byron Maxwell. According to one NFL Network insider, the talks have begun between the two franchises:

Maxwell was one of the big contract signings of the 2015 offseason, inking a six year deal with the Eagles after a four year stint in Seattle where he was a member of the Seahawks’ “Legion of Boom” defense that led the team to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances. Maxwell caught flack when he gave up two touchdowns in the season opener to Atlanta’s Julio Jones, but didn’t allow a single touchdown the rest of the year.

The Miami Dolphins’ pass defense was in the bottom half of the league in 2015, ranking 21st overall and tying for fifth in touchdown passes allowed. Acquiring Maxwell may be further indication that Brent Grimes, the team’s most consistent cornerback in recent years, may be on the way out…in part due to declining play and also based on reported tension caused by comments made from his wife, Miko, regarding quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
