Peyton Manning addresses allegations during retirement press conference

Peyton Manning retired from the NFL on Monday, and addressed those Tennessee allegations along the way.

While the career of Peyton Manning has been one of the best — if not the best — that a quarterback has ever had, he’s leaving a little toothless thanks to allegations that have been made against him. The timing of the allegations of abuse that Manning may or may not have committed while at the University of Tennessee has people glossy eyed about Manning hot and bothered, it has been a talking point nonetheless.

Manning’s retirement from the NFL was made official on Monday, and of course someone was going to ask Manning about the Tennessee allegations. To Manning’s credit, he answered.

"“I did not do what has been alleged and I am not interested in re-litigating something that happened when I was 19.”"

There were allegations of HGH use as well, which have been denied by Manning just like this has. But while the steroid allegations are personal to Manning, the allegations of abuse at Tennessee affects other people and that’s what makes it different from the HGH stuff.

Either way, those saying this cloud over Manning is going to dissipate are dead wrong. It’s now a part of his retirement from the NFL — one of the biggest moments in league history. We still don’t know the full story of what happened, but the fact of the matter is the allegations won’t be going anywhere even if Manning is retreating from the spotlight for other reasons.
