Really, there are not a lot of people surprised by this, especially considering how he’s been playing over the course of the past few seasons. Manning just didn’t look like his usual self, but he was able to fight his way through one more season in 2015 with his defense helping lead him to one more ring before he exits for good. They took care of the high-powered Carolina Panthers and Manning got that second piece of jewelry that has eluded him for so long.
There have been whispers that Manning might be contemplating sticking around a little while longer, potentially with another organization such as the Los Angeles Rams. The longer that the announcement was delayed, people began to believe that this was indeed a possibility.
However, in the end, Manning decided that it was time to hang up the cleats for good, and that’s probably the best decision he could make at this point — to go out a winner.
