5 reasons DeMarco Murray to the Titans is the best fit
1. Titans can better invest their Draft Picks
Even though adding Murray seems like a short-term move, the Titans are thinking about the long-term heading into the 2016 season. Murray won’t help Tennessee reach the playoffs in 2016, but he can be an effective enough stopgap while it builds talent up elsewhere on the roster.
Tennessee has three of the top 64 picks overall and a number of positions it needs to upgrade. With Murray around, the Titans won’t have to use one of those picks on yet another running back, at least this year.
The biggest weakness on the roster is likely offensive tackle, as the Titans gave up an NFL-high 57 sacks last season and may lose Byron Bell to free agency. Tennessee is likely to select a potential franchise left tackle in Laremy Tunsil with the first overall pick, and can use its mid-round picks to upgrade guard and center rather than spend them on a running back.
Other weaknesses the Titans will look to address include the secondary and wide receiver. While Tennessee still may select a running back in the late rounds, it has a chance to add some impact talent at areas of greater needs with higher selections in the draft.
Murray makes one of the Titans’ biggest holes significantly less of a weakness for at least 2016, and the team can now focus elsewhere as it attempts a major overhaul.
