Jason Pierre-Paul has re-signed with the Giants on a one year deal.

The New York Giants enter the 2016 offseason needing to upgrade several parts of their team. One of those parts was the defensive line. They had to keep Jason Pierre-Paul, but at the same time, franchising him was not an option for a variety of reasons. New York got to keep their guy as JPP will be staying with the Giants for at least one more season.

Pierre-Paul is a dynamic player when he is healthy and showed impressive toughness by coming back to play despite suffering a severe hand injury that caused his hand to be mangled. He’s an important leader in their locker room and the kind of player who can make an impact on every down. That’s quite rare to find in a defensive lineman.

Jason Pierre-Paul only had one sack in 2015 in eight games, but in context, he was limited to only using one hand, using a pad on his injured hand. He still provided value stopping the run with 26 tackles. It appears that this deal will be incentive-laden. If that’s the case, that allows the Giants to assume little risk who could provide a ton of value. JPP has 43 sacks in 83 career games, all with the Giants.
