According to Adam Schefter, the Jacksonville Jaguars are expected to sign running back Chris Ivory on Wednesday.
The NFL’s legal tampering window officially opened on Monday, and while teams can’t officially sign players until Monday, rumors and speculation of reported deals have been flying. One team with a lot of money to spend is the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jaguars have already dominated discussion thus far, after they reportedly agreed to terms with Malik Jackson on a six-year/$90 million deal. Now, the Jaguars reportedly aren’t done spending money yet. According to Adam Schefter, the Jaguars will be adding a big piece to their running back core and will sign free agent running back Chris Ivory on Wednesday, when teams are allowed to begin putting pen to paper with players.
The Jaguars already have a good crop of young running backs with Denard Robinson and T.J. Yeldon. By adding Ivory, who really became one of the league’s better running backs with the New York Jets, the Jaguars are adding a good, veteran running back that can help carry the load and keep the rest of the guys fresh.
With the Jaguars set to sign Ivory, the team will release veteran Toby Gerhart.
The Jaguars finally began to show some promise last season and heading into this free agency, the Jaguars are looking to add more dynamic free agents to the crop of young talent that they have on the roster. Adding a veteran like Ivory could go a long way toward pushing the Jaguars to the top of a winnable AFC South.
