Free agent defensive end Mario Williams was supposed to meet with the Giants, but that didn’t take place and doesn’t seem to be happening in the future.

Wednesday afternoon, the doors to NFL free agency open and players are officially allowed to sign with new teams. In the meantime, players who have already been shown the door have started shopping around and visiting possible landing spots once 4 p.m. ET rolls around tomorrow.

One of the most sought after free agents is going to be defensive end Mario Williams. The former first overall draft pick was let go by his latest team, the Buffalo Bills, and is searching for his destination to play his 11th season in the league this upcoming year.

After visiting the Miami Dolphins, Williams reportedly was on his way to the suburbs of New Jersey for a visit with the New York Giants. As it turns out, that visit never took place and (according to NJ.com) the team is moving on from considering the ten-year veteran:

"Williams reportedly was looking for a deal in the $10 million per year range. The price may have been more than the Giants were willing to pay as they concentrate their efforts elsewhere at defensive end right now."

The New York Giants are reportedly considering other options at the position of need, including re-signing their own free agents like Robert Ayres and Jason Pierre-Paul. The team has also met with Charles Johnson, who was let go by the defending NFC champion Carolina Panthers.

In 2015, the New York Giants finished with the worst statistical defense in the NFL, making that side of the ball a priority in free agency for first-year head coach Ben McAdoo and team management.
