Once the NFL free agency period begins, offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele is expected to sign with the Raiders

The Oakland Raiders came into the 2016 offseason desperately needing to upgrade their offensive line. With a ton of cap space, they naturally immediately targeted Baltimore Ravens guard/tackle Kelechi Osemele, the best offensive lineman available in free agency. Once the league season officially begins and teams can sign free agents, the Raiders are expected to give him a huge contract.

The Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets both had a desperate need for someone like Osemele but they simply couldn’t match the price that the Raiders will likely pay him. This is a great signing by the Raiders, but how great it is will depend on where they plan to use Osemele.

Osemele proved that he is a very capable left tackle last season for the Ravens. While he is an above average left tackle, his most ideal position is left guard. Kelechi Osemele shined as a left guard and his ability to shift to left tackle and still be productive shows how excellent he is. Osemele grades as one of the best run blockers in the league because of his athleticism and is a solid defending the pass rush as well.
