Former San Fransisco 49ers offensive guard Alex Boone is heading to the Minnesota Vikings.

The terms of the deal have yet to be released, but according to reports, they have agreed on the deal.

Boone is a two-time Pro Bowl performer, including making the trip to Hawaii in 2015. He has started in 59 career games for the 49ers. After starting all sixteen games in 2012 and 2013, he has missed five games in the past two years. He missed three games to close the year last year, but it was speculated that being on a non-contender had a lot to do with that and that he is 100 percent healthy heading to camp.

Going from a lowly team such as the 49ers to a competitor like the Vikings should have been a bit of an enticement for Boone.

As for the Vikings, they were a team that had a clear weakness at guard, and really all over the line. After cutting Mike Wallace yesterday they were able to cheap $11 million in cap space. With cap space and a need to improve the offensive line it makes a lot of sense that the first move the Vikings would make is to pay for one of the better performers on the market.

After Tuesday’s announcement of the Kelechi Osemele deal the only thing to look for now is how big of a difference the two valuable guards will be.
