Brock Osweiler, Texans agree to terms
The Houston Texans have shockingly agreed to terms with quarterback Brock Osweiler.
Everybody expected that the Denver Broncos would sign quarterback Brock Osweiler after grooming him for four seasons behind Peyton Manning. Instead, Osweiler took more money and is headed to Houston to play under head coach Bill O’Brien in 2016.
Osweiler earned a Super Bowl ring with the Broncos during his fourth season in the Mile High City. Denver drafted Osweiler in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Arizona State University, and he finally got actio in 2015. Osweiler started seven games for Denver and threw for 1,967 yards and 10 touchdowns against six interceptions.
For Houston, the move was a no-brainer. The Texans have desperately needed a quarterback since Matt Schaub went into the dumper years ago, and Osweiler gives them hope. The 25-year-old is just entering his prime and has an elite wide receiver at his disposal in DeAndre Hopkins.
Denver is left completely in the lurch after Osweiler decided on Houston. General manager John Elway has some options, namely trading for Colin Kaepernick or signing Robert Griffin III, Ryan Fitzpatrick or Johnny Manziel. Elway might be better off spending a first-round pick on Connor Cook or Paxton Lynch and allowing head coach and former NFL quarterback Gary Kubiak to develop him.
