Report: Derrick Johnson to re-sign with Chiefs for three years

Veteran linebacker Derrick Johnson will re-sign with the Kansas City Chiefs for three years.

NFL Free Agency officially opened on Wednesday afternoon, and the deals have been flying ever since teams became eligible to speak to free agents. The Kansas City Chiefs had an active day in free agency as they begin to work toward winning the AFC West.

While they’ve had their issues with the NFL taking away draft picks for tampering issues in 2015, the Chiefs did make some nice moves to begin free agency. One of those nice moves is retaining veteran linebacker Derrick Johnson, who will re-sign for three years according to Josina Anderson.

Derrick Johnson returning to the Chiefs shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, as he’s been a long time favorite there and he loves the city. He’s an integral part of their defense and as the 33 year old linebacker gets older, he knows that his best chances at competing are probably with the Chiefs.

This deal gives him a chance to finish out his career in Kansas City and more importantly, continue to teach the next wave of great Chiefs defenders. It’s a nice sized deal for Johnson and it’s indicative of the rising prices in free agency.
