NFL Free Agency: Brock Osweiler’s hefty contract from Houston sets Twitter on fire

The Houston Texans have agreed to a massive four year contract with quarterback Brock Osweiler and social media is having a field day with it.

In the world of NFL free agency, it isn’t a matter of IF some team or teams are going to overpay for one of the hundreds of players that are available…but WHEN it is going to happen. As the clock sounded on Wednesday opening the free agency period for the 2016 offseason, it appears we have a winner from the state of Texas.

The Houston Texans, fresh off a division title and playoff appearance in 2015 with a cast of characters at quarterback, went out and signed one of the bigger names at that position this offseason when they agreed to a deal with Brock Osweiler, formerly a member of the defending world champion Denver Broncos.

It isn’t so much the deal that is the story…but how much the man who has started seven total games in his four year career is about to be cashing into his bank account:

For those non-math majors, that is over $10 million in the life of the contract for every game he has started up to this point. True, the Brocnos did win five of the games that Brock Osweiler started this season en route to a Super Bowl title, but Twitter members are shocked at the sheer numbers of the deal:

Of course, since it’s social media, those online took a chance to post their favorite memes about the move…with some of the all time favorites including Michael Jordan, one very notable former Denver Broncos quarterback and so much more:

Brock Osweiler’s signing now has many people wonder what the Broncos will do at starting quarterback, with his departure and the retirement of Peyton Manning earlier in the week. Several names that have been linked to the team include former Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III and current San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kapernick.
