The New York Jets have reportedly agreed to sign free agent running back Matt Forte.
The New York Jets came into this offseason wanting to upgrade at the running back position, especially since they appear to be losing Chris Ivory to the Jacksonville Jaguars. New York may have found a replacement right away, as the Jets have reportedly agreed to terms with former Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte.
Forte will be expected to be the primary back in the Jets offense, though they should have the depth options necessary to spell Forte at times. He should be a great fit in the Jets offense, as his versatility and ability to make plays as a runner or as a receiver out of the backfield should be valuable to whoever lines up as the Jets quarterback in 2016.

Forte has 8,602 career rushing yards on 2,035 carries for an average of 4.2 rushing yards per carry. He also has 487 receptions for 4,116 receiving yards and 64 total touchdowns (45 rushing and 19 receiving) in his career, all for the Bears until now. While he is 30 years old, he can still be productive and hasn’t shown any signs of significant decline. Forte is a two time Pro Bowler (2011 and 2013), and his 12,718 all purpose yards rank 12th among all active players and 73rd among all NFL players ever.
