NFL Rumors: Broncos targeting RGIII to replace Brock Osweiler
By Josh Hill
The Denver Broncos are reportedly interested in Robert Griffin III.
The NFL free agency feeding frenzy has begun, and the Denver Broncos are in the amerce for a quarterback. Book Osweiler was rumored to be using interest from the Houston Texans as a negotiating tactic, but it turned out to be a little more than that.
In fact, it was the exact opposite of a tactic, it was the real deal. Osweiler burned the Broncos and took a contract with the Texans, leaving Denver now without a quarterback. Colin Kaepernick has been mentioned as a potential option for the Broncos in a trade with the 49ers, but he’s not the only option.
According to Adam Schefter from ESPN, the Broncos have Robert Griffin III on their radar now that they’ve lost out on re-signing Osweiler.
Losing Osweiler is a blow to the Broncos but it’s not a fatal one. While Robert Griffin III has been a disaster in his time with Washington, he isn’t any more proven than Osweiler. In fact, RGIII has more playoff playing experience than Osweiler does despite the fact that the latter has a Super Bowl ring.
It’s a sexy pick, which is sure to grab the attention of fans, but is it the right fit for Griffin? Houston seemed a decent destination for him given their stout defense and good receivers, but Denver might be an even better option. The defense single handily won the Super Bowl this year and Demaryius Thomas is one of the best deep threats in the game, not to mention Emmanuel Sanders by his side.
Denver isn’t the only team interested in RGIII, but this might end up being a chips falling in the right place situation for all parties involved.
