Report: Coby Fleener agrees to deal with Saints
According to Ian Rapoport, the New Orleans Saints have signed tight end Dwayne Allen to a five-year deal.
The New Orleans Saints utilize the tight end better than just about any team in the league and after the loss of Benjamin Watson in free agency, the Saints were in need of a new tight end for quarterback Drew Brees to throw to.
On Wednesday, the Saints found their new tight end and added a talented one to the roster, when they signed former Indianapolis Colts tight end Coby Fleener to the roster, according to Ian Rapoport.
The very first thing that jumps off the page is the amount of money that the Saints are paying Fleener. With the free agency class and draft class being thin for tight ends, teams were going to have to pay if they were going to add a top tight end to the roster.
However, it’s a worthy investment for the Saints, as Brees has done a great job utilizing tight ends during his career for the Saints. With the talent that Fleener has shown in Indianapolis, he perhaps could be the tight end that becomes the next big thing in New Orleans.
He had a down year last year, but part of that can be attributed to the Colts were missing Andrew Luck for most of the season. The Saints have lost some weapons on offense thus far in the offseason, but now they are getting younger and getting more explosive.
