Supergirl/Flash crossover: Worlds Finest synopsis revealed

The synopsis for the Supergirl/Flash crossover reveals that the two heroes do indeed live on alternate Earths.

Barry Allen has been to Earth-2 on The Flash, but he’s about to visit an even different parallel world, one that has its own protector. And it looks like Supergirl is going to need his help to deal with a pair of supervillains.

Those are the big takeaways from the official synopsis for the Supergirl/Flash crossover, “Worlds Finest,” released today by CBS. The eagerly anticipated pairing of the stars from the two popular DC TV shows will take place on Monday, March 28.

While only a dream even a few months ago, the crossover has come together quickly. The real world obstacles were mostly due to the two series airing on different networks, but the fictional mechanism for it to take place has been baked into Season 2 of The Flash.

During a trip to Earth-2, Barry, Cisco Ramon and Harry Wells experienced a series of images of other alternate Earths, including one of Kara Zor-El. This led many fans to jump on what the synopsis for “Worlds Finest” confirms; namely, that the Flash would end up journeying to a third Earth and face the possibility of being stuck there.

Here’s what CBS says fans can expect:

"Kara gains a new ally when the lightning-fast superhero The Flash (Grant Gustin) suddenly appears from an alternate universe and helps Kara battle Siobhan, aka Silver Banshee, and Livewire in exchange for her help in finding a way to return him home, on SUPERGIRL, Monday, March 28 (8:00-9:00 PM) on the CBS Television Network. Grant Gustin crosses over as The Flash."

The network also released a cool piece of promo art that pays homage to the multiple races the Flash and Superman have had in DC Comics over the years. Specifically, Comic Book Resources points out how its modeled on the cover to Superman #199, drawn by the great Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson.

Pretty cool, and it’s not hard to imagine the two relatively optimistic heroes deciding to see who’s really faster just for kicks before Barry returns to his own Earth. Even if you aren’t a regular Supergirl viewer, you won’t want to miss “Worlds Finest” when it airs later this month.
