Chicago Bulls vs San Antonio Spurs

Although the Chicago Bulls made a splash hire with Fred Hoiberg and looked like one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference for the first half of the season, they’ve fallen off dramatically. In fact, Chicago is now tied for eighth place in the East with the Detroit Pistons and had lost 9-of-12 before a record two-game win streak.

Jimmy Butler is inching closer to a return, but he’s getting a second opinion on his knee, so the Bulls will have to wait even longer to get their star back. In the meantime, Pau Gasol is averaging 17.0 points and 11.1 rebounds per game while Derrick Rose is contributing 16.6 points and 4.9 assists. The former MVP is starting to get back to form.

The Bulls might be heading in the wrong direction, but the San Antonio Spurs have been trending up all year-long. San Dantonio is 54-10 through 64 games and if it weren’t for the red-hot Golden State Warriors, they’d have a very comfortable lead in the Western Conference. Still, there’s a slight chance San Antonio could snag first place from the Warriors.

Kawhi Leonard has taken over the role of top player on the Spurs as Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker continue to play well into their 30s. Leonard is averaging 20.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game as the reigning NBA Defensive Player of the Year. LaMarcus Aldridge was a solid addition over the offseason as a free agent.
